Richard Shemesian attended, and graduated from, the University of Western Australia. He is a graduate of Business and Law, and has a desire to stay in touch with his fellow alumni.
The University of Western Australia is located, just as the name implies, in the state of Western Australia—specifically in Perth, the largest city in, and capital of, Western Australia. The University of Western Australia is largely considered to be one of the best universities in Australia. The appeal is not just national in scope, though, the University of Western Australia regularly appears in both national and international lists for the best colleges and universities.
Part of the success of the University of Western Australia may hinge upon its traditions. It was founded in 1911 by an act of the Australian Parliament, making it the second oldest degree granting institution in the state of Western Australia. Sir Winthrop Hackett was the first chancellor as well as the first major benefactor—he gave the school a large plot of land and its first dose of successful leadership. The university has been home to nearly one hundred students who later became Rhodes Scholars, as well as one who later won the Nobel Prize, so the motto, “Seek Wisdom”, is more than just a cheap slogan to them.
The University of Western Australia Law School is just as successful as the university as a whole. The Law School has an infrastructure that is enviable, including a system for placing students in the field to get real world experience. It’s also home to six research centres which students can use to better understand how their studies apply to the actual practice of law in various fields, including consumer research and the environment.
